I got an interesting phone call this evening... I'm going tomorrow to meet w/ two little mini schnauzers to decide if one of them wants to join our family. I called my vets office today and talked to the receptionist to get prices on neutering & teeth cleanings. I explained to her about the dogs being 3 yrs old and the info that I know about them and asked her opinion since she sees so many dogs every day. She gave me the prices but didn't sound like she had time to talk. She asked for my phone number so I thought she was just busy and wanted to check on prices and would call me back later. Well, around 5:30 this evening my phone rang and it was the receptionist calling me from home. I was shocked! She said that she adopted a 3 yr old mini schnauzer a while ago and a couple of the girls at the vets office gave her a hard time about adopting an older dog and that they still give her grief over it any time the dog does anything wrong. They think you should only buy a puppy so that you can train it to your specifications. She wanted to call from home so that she could talk without the other women overhearing her conversation. She said that she wanted to call because it reminded her a lot of the same situation that she was in when she got her mini schnauzer. We talked for about 1/2 an hour and she gave me a lot of good advice. She asked me to call her in the next couple of days to let her know if we decide to take one of the little guys that we're meeting tomorrow. She also said she'd keep her an eye out for any dogs that meet our criteria in her office. Oh, and it was a long distance call for her. I was just amazed that she would take the time out of her evening to call me to talk to me about my situation. What a wonderful lady! I think I'll tell the vet that he needs to give her a raise the next time I'm in there. I love being reminded that there really are nice, caring people in the world still.
