 Where did he come from?
Where did you get Skip? Did he come from a kennel/breeder? I've dealt with a lot of rescues and the rescues that came to me were from backyard breeders or puppymills. They dont' know how to play or interact. Some don't even know what grass is and are afraid of it and of toys because they lived their whole life in a kennel or crate. You need to have a lot of patience and love. All this has to be taught to them. These dogs turn out to be the best because they are so appreciative of the life they now have. Just go slow and work with him slowly. Hands coming at him to play or toys being thrown to him may be scary for awhile. Sometimes it takes a Good year for them to come around and sadly the older dogs that come from places like this never adapt. Your baby is young and should adjust fine and quickly. Quickly meaning six months or so, but you have patience with him and show him love etc. Best of luck to you. Elaine |
