Before really cleaning the scene of a crime (accident
) soak most of it up w/ a wee-wee pad and leave that one down. It should increase their chances of using it, and if it works don't forget to praise like crazy.
I've heard if the pup is being extra-stubborn, i.e. holding it forever when it's time to go, put him back in his crate and try again in a few minutes. This will only work if he doesn't soil the crate of course. They are very smart and will soon learn it's potty time or back in the crate - hopefully they will choose potty!
