Hi and welcome to YT!!!!!! I, too would have the vet check out the spot you are talking about. It doesn't sound like a flea bite. These pups can be prone to staph infections, particularly if they have allergies.
As far as flea protection goes, I would try another product. I also use Sentinel which is a combo heart worm/flea prevention. I also use Mink Sheen shampoo which has essential oils in it which also help to repel fleas. There are other shampoos which also do this; Buddy Wash and Shea Pet are a few more.
