I usually fold the soiled ones in quarters (in half and then in half again) and put them in my laundry room until I am ready to wash them. I have left them there for a week and they don't stink. The waterproof barrier holds the smell in. Of course once you open them up to wash them you can smell it, but as long as they are folded with the waterproof side out they don't smell.

Everyone has different preferences. If disposables work better for you then that's what you should do.
