maybe she didn't mean like "It's JUST a dog." Maybe she meant it as "I know it's a dog but not sure of the breed". Vets should be familiar with most breeds, but you can't expect every vet to know every breed. And you certainly can't expect them to know the standard of each breed. They aren't AKC judges... So I guess it depends on how you think she meant it. If she meant it's JUST a dog, no I wouldn't like that because it's my baby, not just a dog. But if she was just basically telling you she wasn't an expert on dog breeds, then I wouldn't think too much about it. I would prefer someone that is more familiar with small breed dogs, but I don't expect them to be able to tell me what type of coat my yorkie has...because like I said, they're vets,not yorkie breeders or AKC judges

Educate yourself and buy from reputable breeders or rescue.
