Default Help peed in our bed

I know this should be probably in the training section but I need help right now. We are having a hard time with potty training Toby. He's just shy of 8 months and I feel we are too late cause we could not get him trained properly from the beginning. Regardless, he just peed in our bed while he was right on top of me. Usually he sleeps in his crate but we were just settling down to sleep and usually cuddle for a bit before I put him in his crate. I didn't notice (He was down at my feet and I had two blankets on) till he already went to hide because he knew what he did was wrong. How should I correct this? Do I punish him in some way? This is the third time he did this. The first two times I was told to rub his nose it in and tell him outside and immediately put him outside. But this obviously did not work nor is that method or bell training working for going to the bathroom outside. Is it too late? What do I do? He seems like he knows that he is doing wrong so he knows he's in trouble. I don't want to put him in the crate because I don't want him to think the crate is for punishment. I am getting so frustrated. Please help!
