Gracie is 15 months. She is potty trained but stays in her "room" when I am at work. On the weekends and when I am home, she has free run. She only gets into paper and shreds it, if she can find it. However, I worry that when I am away, she will get curious and get into other things, like chewing cords and furniture. When she is confined to her "room", I know she is safe and so does she. I have thought about testing the waters, letting her run loose when I go grocery shopping or run errands for an hour or so. However, I would never forgive myself if she got into something and got hurt or worse. It only takes a second. I just don't think its worth the risk. She will stay in her "room" when I am not home.
