 Remmy had Stones Also
My Remmy has two sugeries last year for bladder stones. 6000 dollars later he is doing much better. He was a good boy and never went potty in the house. That is how I knew something was wrong. The vet kept saying that he has behavior issues but how can a perfectly trained dog start peeing in the house. He would pace around all the time and go to the door all the time. He would walk around and dribble pee so it was not like he was lifting his leg and just letting it go. I will share my story and some import information if your baby every gets this.
Remmy's stones were formed from an UTI in the bladder. This is how most stones are formed. It took months of constant vet visits to determine what was wrong with Remmy. I don't blame anyone but the vet should have given me better advice that could have saved me thousands of dollars.
1st if you suspect that your baby may have stones have them do a test where dye is injected in the bladder. Many stones will not show up on a regular xray. My vet recommended that I get an ultrasound of the bladder done. I should have gotten the dye done first. Ultrasound is much more expensive on top of the fact that ultrasounds cannot see through bone. So the ultrasound that I got for Remmy was pointless because his stones were hiding behind bones. If I would have gotten the dye test it would have shown up.
Second and most important-this more than likely would have kept him from getting stones a second time. After Remmy's initial surgery the specialist that performed the surgery did not put him on extended antibiotics. They seem to think since the bladder is sterilized during surgery that there is no room for the infection. However, I think it would have been very good for him to be on extended antibiotic to kill any infection present in the bladder. Within six months he had stones again.
The vet did the second surgery and put him on extended antibiotics afterwards and put him on the UD food and he has been fine since then.
Remmy uses the potty normally. He is a good boy and never potties in the house or his crate. I make sure to give him distilled water and keep water out at all times for him. I know if he every has an accident that is the first thing I think it that he might have a bladder infection. |
