I'm a firm believer that dogs are fully capable of pushing our buttons, and this may very well be what he is doing. Give him what he wants and let him sleep inside if it not a huge inconvenience to you. Choose your battles wisely, sometimes its better to let them have what they want, and sometimes its not. In this case, its not a dominance thing, so its ok to let him have what he wants.
