You just did this recently? Is it possible that they think of that as a play area and not an okay-to-potty-area? Maybe if they were rewarded a few times if you catch them pottying, they'd figure out that was a potty place??
I guess I'd assume that they'd equate "outside" with "potty" but maybe that's not necessarily a given??? Let us know what does work.
