If you are talking about one of the BIG avatars (like mine, just to give an example) - you have to be a donating member to the site
Once you donate, a little fairy will wave a magic wand and POOF - you will be able to upload a bigger avatar
Ok - I was just kidding about the little fairy waving the magic wand - lol
Truthfully though, you do have to donate in order to have one of the bigger ones
