Default My sweet little Sierra

My sweet little Sierra passed yesterday. It was a long, terrible death! The day before, we took her to the Vet because she hadn't been eating very much for about a week. He did a blood test and said she had acute kidney failure. He said there was no hope except for a miracle. But we wanted to bring her home and pray for a miracle! He gave us some tranquilizers and advised us how to euthanize her ourselves. The next day, after a restless nite in bed with us, she became very agitated and started crying....a moaning from deep within. There was nothing we could do. We gave her pain meds and it did nothing. So we gave her the meds for euthanashia (sp) and it DIDN'T WORK! All it did was practically paralize her body, but she was still crying out continuously in pain. We were beside ourselves. We live 70 miles from town, and took her in. He gave her the shot and she was at peace at last! What a horrible way to go! She was only 7 years old! We thought we'd have a lot more years with her. She was our baby! We have her sister, still, and she is sad and looks around for her sibling.
Now, one of the worst parts about this whole thing is this. And, I'm telling you all this so you can be forewarned. About 6 mos ago, she started having VERY bad breath. We thought it was her teeth. So we took her to the Vet and he said she has tartar on her teeth and gave me some stuff to clean them with.
Come to find out, now, that the breath was a BIG symptom of kidney disease. If he would have discovered that, we could have treated her and postponed her demise.
We are sooooo sad for her loss. But at least she is now out of pain. She was such a little cutie and didn't deserve such a horrible ending. I blame the Vet for telling us how much med to give too. That just made it all the more worse..
After the lethal injection, we brought her home (we have a few acres of land in the country) and had a regal funeral for her. We wrapped her still little body in a favorite blanket of hers, and put her in her favorite stroller and strolled her out to our pet cemetary (we have lived here for 25 years and many pets have come and gone in that time). The funeral procession included our 5 outdoor, big dogs, her Yorkie sister, and her best friend housecat in a crate so he could watch. It was VERY touching. We were all crying, to say the least.

Rest in peace, Sierra......1999-2007 We will miss you!
