Default Do you think it's cruel

I have the same probably with my yorkies when walking. They go crazy barking when they see another dog. My Chihuahua and Jack Russell (both females and a little older) are usually quiet but sometimes the boys even get them barking. It is so embarrasing when walking them into the doggie park with all of them barking their little heads off. They shut right up once we are in the fenced in area of the doggie park and they are off leash.

Anyway, I decided to take the squirt bottle with me for our walk last night. One of my yorkies is terrified of it and will leave the room if I even set the bottle out. Sure enough we walked half a block and a dog was walking across the street and the boys started barking and pulling. I gave them both a squirt and they shut up but after that little Diesel was afraid to get anywhere near me. It totally ruined the walk for him. I practically had to drag him for the rest of the walk.

So do you think this is to cruel to use for them. I want them to stop barking but I don't want Diesel to develop a complex or something.

Any advice appreciated.
