It really saddens me to see that so many Yorkie Lovers are still reaching for the Benadryl when it comes to allergies and itching etc. I am speaking from EXPERIENCE WITH TWO YORKIES and after educating myself about using the Medical Model vs the Health Model, I have learned reams. Both of my dogs have been on benadryl and NEVER AGAIN will they get that medication. It is hard on the liver and digestive system and only TREATS SYMPTOMS. It takes a little time (sometimes a week or two to really kick in) to get into their system and when you finally take them off it, all of the problems will return. Allergies and itching mean a weakened immune system and your vet will not usually deal with this--not their fault if they are traditional vets as mine IS. I now deal with an organic nutritionist and a holistic vet UNLESS my dog is in dire need of PHYSICAL HELP in order to live. I have watched both Dixie and Buddy BLOSSOM with the use of Organic supplements and haven't been near benadryl or antibiotics in months...I am stunned at how naive I was about putting my vet on a pedestal and believing every word out her mouth. But she is following a MEDICAL MODEL ONLY and it's MY responsibility from now on to sort out details instead of taking her word as coming from God. I will never leave this vet, do not misunderstand--but now I realize that my little Yorkies ongoing HEALTH NEEDS have to come from natural sources and not pills.
Yes, I am adamant about this now that Buddy and Dixie are the pictures of health..in just two months. I would be happy to share with anyone who is interested--I am so into their ongoing health and strengthening their immune systems so that they will always have more GOOD BACTERIA than bad.
