Hi there. First post so I wanted to say thank you for all the helpful information on this site.

My little Bean has been hacking and coughing ever since I got him. He is 4 months. He was previously owned by a friend for 2 weeks and she decided she could not handle him and her dog so I got him. She gave him all his shots including the kennel shot.

He was coughing a little the first couple of days I had him and even coughed up a hair ball.

Since then it has gotten progressively worse. I know they have a tendency to have collapsable tracheas, but he wakes himself up coughing so it is not when he is overly excited and I have tickled his throat and he doesn't do it. He has coughing/hacking fits for about 5 minutes and they have gotten more frequent. He seems to want to cough something up but it is just clear mucous.

I took him to the vet and she prescribed an antibiotic and a steroid, but he has taken them 5 days with no improvement.

Any thoughts?
