Puppy class taught us to use treats at the door and teach them to wait ... open the door and use the treat to have her sit and wait . When she learms this command then she will listen to you when you use the word "wait " as the door opens. I have two and they pretty much know "wait " and do not try to get out. My previous yorkie would run every time the door opened . Too dangerous to not teach them properly. Good luck Autumn.
