New Bacterial Concerns

I just received this news, Most of you are probably aware of this, so for those who are not aware, please make sure there is no standing water outside in planters ,gutters, etc.. before you let your pets outside

New Bacterial Concerns July 14, 2005

A dangerous bacterial disease that can be passed from dogs to humans may be in resurgence.

Once primarily found on farms, leptospirosis is appearing in urban areas, causing veterinarians to issue new warnings. Water contaminated with infected animals' urine is a typical source of the bacteria, which can cause a wide range of symptoms in humans, such as fever, headache, chills, and vomiting, and can damage the kidneys of both humans and dogs. Ask your vet about exposure levels in your area and appropriate prevention steps.
