I understand where you are coming from. I had always brought dogs into my home as puppies, and even breed Bichons. But I was still nervous about bringing adult dogs into my home.

Bubba & Roxie are my first yorkies and they came at 1 1/2 yrs of age. While you miss that cute puppy stage, there are so many other things you won't have to deal with!!

You have already had some great advice. I would also add, try to get the female when you will be home for several days in a row, so she can adjust to your home and you are available to her just like you would a puppy. I also found talking with my vet to be important, your vet may give you added support and information. (although I can't imagine that someone on yt wouldn't have already have thought of it - lol.)
