Izzy is totally crate trained but since she has gotten older and can hold her business all night - we have been letting her sleep with us on the weekends and crate during the week when we go to work. That way she's used to both just in case she has to get boarded someday or stay at someone else's house.
My husband was also worried about smooshing her but that has never been the case - she sleeps in between our pillows or curled up between us or on my stomach side or my husbands stomach side....lol.
