For Lacy I paid a total of $25 ($10 for the chip and $15 to register her with AVID). I had her chipped at a low-cost chipping thing that a rescue group was doing at Petco.
For My cat, I paid $30 for the chip and then $24 to register her with Home Again. I had her chipped at her vet.
