You mention meds- was he placed on any type of steroids? A side effect of steroids is fluid retention and weight gain ( both temporary). One may be gave them to help with allergies and different types of inflamations that could occur in the lungs/bronchial tubes with respiratory infections.
Was he weighed on a differnt scale at the vet's office or could the scale not have been set back to zero before he waas weighed.
He just may be going through is teen age growing spurt.
Did you feed him a lot of goodies since he was ill- that you might not have fed him during a normal week?
