When she showed me the dog in her back seat, I thought, OMG, that dog was the size and structure of some of my hubby's largest beagles. I didn't have the heart to tell the breeder I didn't want her, plus she looked like she could really use the money. I brought her home and it was disaster. Clearly, she had been a kennel dog. She was young and sweet, loved to run and play. Only problem, my little dogs were getting hurt with her playing so rough and they couldn't get out of her way. I kept her two weeks then re-homed her for the good of everyone. I will never buy a dog again because I feel sorry for someone.
I'm glad to see somebody understands the mentality of taking the dog because you feel bad for having somebody drive so far and already almost "sealing the deal" on the phone. After we both drove so far, I couldn't pull myself to just say "no" to her. I'd have felt like the biggest ass ever. Besides, what's more, if I need to find him a great home I can certainly do that.
