The co-worker said the males are kept in individual pens until breeding-

It sounds like more of a puppymill to me unless this is a big pen that has plenty of room for play and run and socialization (not only when being fed). - I'd steer far clear from this-

If you're interested in breeding, take your time and continue studying and preparing. Ffind yourself a nice, quality girl to begin with (from a nice quality breeder).
