it means that the stitches are internal and there are no stitches poking out on the outside. These stitches dissolve so you don't have to return to have then taken out. The dog is less likely to pull the stitches out BUT he can still irritate them by licking at the area which can cause it to open up. so he still needs to be kept away from them.
