Something else you should do is always check his anus. Most often they scoot because they need their anal glands expressed but sometimes they scoot when they are not constipated and have poop stuck to their anus and will not allow them to have another bowel movement when they need to. Of course that can smell terrible and be very dangerous.

Most dogs only need their anal glands expressed if they are having a problem and most say should not be done regularly. Add a teaspoon of cooked brocolli to their dinner once in awhile and it helps.
