Welllll, "strep" is a bug (streptococcus) - but there are lots of kinds (just like there are lots of "kinds" of colds). So, theoretically - a bug could jump to a different host and possibly infect the new host, or morph and infect the new host.

To really know, you'd have to grow out the bugs in Petri and then identify them...but I think it could happen.

Just think of ALL the crazy diseases/bugs we unearthed by mucking up the rainforests - all of those were from non-human hosts....yikes, huh?
