Is she going to get better?
Wow, my first instinct is to say that he should be told. You know him better than any of us. I know that many people would be angry that they weren't told and others might be thankful that you saved them the worry. I would be amung the first group.
If it's just a passing thing and she will get better than I would save him the worry. If it's life threatening he would probably rather know.
Hmmmmm, I really don't know. Those are just my thoughts.
