The Yorkshire Terrier originated 200 years ago. Have you read the breed history? These poor people couldn't own larger dogs by law to hunt so they kept these little dogs to hunt small game like rabbits, and they were also used as ratters. It wasn't even a breed back then. Once it became a breed, a standard was set and breeders began to breed them with a goal in mind which is why we have the yorkshire terrier of today. There is a very specific standard written for the yorkshire terrier.
