I've posted about this before - first "clicker training" is NOT about the clicker is about a training method called "operant conditioning" - if the clicker isn't working for you all you need to do is find something else to use as a marker. In Seaworld, the use a whistle. With noise sensitive rescue dogs, I use a "kiss."

Second - there are now many types of clickers on the market that modulate the sound from the clicker so you can work to desensitize your animals to the sound. Once the associate the clicker with food and fun, it becomes a positive experience for them. ( I also clicker train my Macaw).
