That is good to know though. Just one more reason for me to not go cable on the phone.

But I will say this: phone company or cable company, neither would be able to release the phone number to you if you had it traced. They also cannot tell you who it is making the calls. But if they feel it is breaking the law, they can turn it over to the police.

I had a company that was sending us fax calls at times like 2am and 4am forever. If you know how some of those work, if a fax machine is unsuccessful, the call will go into the queue and retry until it is successful. Since it is a home number and not a fax machine, of course it was unsuccessful. But I would get these calls that would come like every 5 minutes all night long.

We DID have the trap placed on the line. The ph company would put a trap on, and we had to log when the calls came. When it was found who was making the calls, neither the ph company nor the police would do anything--even under it being called "harrassment" (and if getting middle of the night fax calls every five minutes isn't harrassment, I don't know what is?!!!)

In the end, we had to change our phone number. It is unfortunate that that is the way it is, but they won't block the calls or anything. No matter what gets found out, in the end, your only result will be they will suggest you get your number changed. They won't do squat about it.
