They reformulated them a while ago to be easier to digest. I think it is like any chew or toy though-- you need to be mindful of your dog and their chewing habits. If I give Penny a greenie or a rawhide, she chews it for a bit, hides it, comes back later, chews it a little more, hides it again-- they often last her days and days, so I'm pretty confident that however much she is ingesting at any given time is a small enough amount to pass through her system without problems. I know other dogs that try to wolf the things down whole-- and those dogs I would worry about, easy-to-digest formula or not.
