I think a good 10 to 14 days. They can't run, jump or do stairs. My vet gave me papers with instructions on what to do and how much medicine to give her and I followed that sheet.
The x-pen really made it easier because she mostly slept and rested the first couple of days.
I am sure your vet will do the same. I thought I would have a problem with her licking the incision but I did't she would look at it from time to time and maybe once or twice try to sniff or lick at it but only for a second.

all that worrying and she was fine and I have to say it was not a bad experience.
