Oh my gosh I am so sorry this happened to you!!!Have you tried talking to the relatives in a reasonable way, explaining just how much this little Butters means to you? Try and appeal to their emotions, explain how heartbroken you are. If that gets you nowhere, then maybe explain the legal side of this, like Myfairlacy suggests. I know that getting another dog could not begin to replace your Butters, this is an animal you bonded with and obviously love.
I really feel for you. I cannot imagine how crazed I would be if anybody took one of my girls away.
