Be prepared - if your vet hasn't been trained in acupuncture or has not seen the benefits of it in animals, he will probably be very negative towards it. If you can find an acupuncture vet near you, they should give you an honest assessment about whether they can help your furbaby. And a second opinion is always a good thing.
