I'm sure no one means to jump on you. It's a common practise with a first litter especially to have an xray done 7 - 10 days before due to see how many pups are expected and make sure that they are uniform in size so that you can be better prepared. I think the anger is more directed at the person who sold you a dog. I would never breed a mix but if it happened accidently I sure wouldn't pass the responsibility off to someone else. To sell you a dog and say, "oh it might be pregnant" just seems terribly thoughtless to me. She put you in a touch position and made her mistake your responsibility. I wouldn't consider her an ethical breeder at all. It sounds like you care about this little girl and have done some work to prepare for the whelping. I wish you and your gal luck and encourage you to get an xray. It's really nice to know when the pups are all out so you can take a deep breath.
