  I forgot to add, we just returned from a paint seminar.  Kilz works good but you must paint the top coat within a few days.  Some problems can develope with primers if the top coat is not applied within like 48 hours.  Primer is basically a glue to adhere to the  surface and provide a surface to the top coat to adhere to.  Primer is highly recommended when going from a satin, semi-gloss to gloss to a softer finish like eggshell or flat.  If you allow the primer to dry for too long, especially Kilz, it gets really hard and the top coat will basically slide off.  If that happenes, you will have to put another primer coat on the surface and prepaint the top coat.
