I would not go to a commerical site and talk about commerical breeders. Hopefully, we can stay do the same.
As to YTCA...I have never seen anything in writing and you will not. Regional clubs unspoken rules are the same as YTCA. Not all agree and many have seen the need to belong and help out when they can. Others do not want to take the chance of being lumped with so called pet breeders.
I started breeding before I showed..so to some I will forever be a backyard breeder. I do not care and like belonging to this type forum..it is fun, most showlist are a bit serious and dull..imo. I think there is room for many different types to join. |
Just so I'm clear here - YTCA has NO POSITION on message boards, right?
I have seen boards disparaged in magazines such as the
Chronicle. Usually, along the lines of "the people who really know their stuff, who are out there winning at the shows are not typing in on the boards." But that is not the same thing as saying "thou shall not post on a message board."
Truly, I think that kind of thinking is all wrong:
1) Please don't tell me because you are a top kennel or handler that you can't take the time to post on a board or help a pet owner out - if you can write long articles in dog "Trade" magazines; and
2) How can the public possibly become educated about dogs and proper breeding and care if the people in the "know" wont post on a public forum? There are plenty of email/yahoo lists going around but most of these are closed to the public and require an invitation. That doesn't help Joe-dog owner when he is looking for his first puppy. If dog show people really want to stop pupppy mills and pet shops sales- it has to start with THEM. Reaching out to the public and helping them make good choices. How else will people learn why they shouldn't buy from pet shops? The pet shop owners aren't going to say anything!
I think a message board is a valuable source of information and as long as people recognize that that's all it is - we can stop all the in-fighting and help one another instead.
