I think many of us go to the same stress when our babies were getting fixed. But if the vet is good he shouldn't have any problem. And most vet will let you take him home the same day(just remember to prepare a nice spot for him away from your other dog so he can sleep the effects off).

p.s. Teddy acted as if nothing had happened after a couple of day. My hardest problem after I got Teddy neutered was to keep him from jumping on and off of furitures and tearing his stitches.
