Gosh that's a LOT of weight for such a little baby. I'd be suspicious of thyroid, for one. Has all of her blood work been done? At this age, any tests for liver etc. wouldn't really be conclusive.

But, ya know, after learning all I did about what giardia can do to a puppies system (Marcel had it twice), I'd also be suspicious of that being the cause. If the giardia had a chance to start digesting the intestinal tissues (which it probably did), then the little baby's system is/was probably having a tough time absorbing the needed nutrients.

To really get to her to heal optimally, you may want to supplement w/ a probiotic and digestive enzymes - can you homecook for her? Or, what are you planning to feed?

One last thing - what is she on for giardia? I only ask bc Metronidazole is a tough, tough drug for many animals - it can sometimes start to build up and begin to cause toxicity symptoms. I actually started to suspect this w/ Marcel - did some research, brought to vet, and sure enough - we decided to get him off of it. Take a look here, just so you'd know what to look for: http://www.wedgewoodpharmacy.com/mon...ronidazole.asp

Keep us posted! I'd love to hear about this little baby. And bless you for taking her in!
