You know your giving the right amount of food based on your dogs condition, you should be able to easily feel his/her ribs but it should feel like there is a layer of fat between the ribs. If you have to press or you struggle to feel them then the dog is a bit overweight, if they feel too 'boney' with no fat between the ribs then they are probably a little underweight. So if your dog is underweight then you should give more food and if they are overweight then you should give less. It really is that simple, no different to how you might do it with yourself.
