You might keep a box of alcohol pads on hand. The tick will back out with the alcohol, then you use the pad to sterilize the spot.

If you prefer not to use chemicals on your lawn, then you can purchase Beneficial Nematodes at your local feed store or organic gardening center. These small nematodes feed on the larvae of the tick, flea and grubs. We use them on our lawn and haven't had a parasite in over ten years, without using any chemicals on our dogs. When using the nematodes, you must keep your lawn watered on a regular basis. If you allow your lawn to become very dry, it will kill your nematodes.
