Default worms

A lot depends on where you live and how your dogs live..how many you have, the breed etc..I can recall no more then 4 to 5 positive stool results for worms and that is alot of poop in 35 yrs..but I wormed all adults twice yearly and treated the yards twice yearly also...and all pups had 2 stool checks before leaving...but I have routinely wormed 8 weeks olds from time to time if they were not tinies.
Tape worms are totally different..they come from swallowing a flea..and you will need vet meds for them.
