I'm a little hesitant to give mine too varied a diet because 1, it isn't good for their digestion and 2, it can create poor eating habits. So, I use only certain treats for training, tricks and only the same food for meals. I might switch treats, like instead of a Cheerio, it might be a green bean for going potty, but they know that fetching their ball is always sliced apple and meals it will be dry Royal Canin with a very small amount of Natural Balance Lamb and Rice roll. In a pinch I might have to use something like Propel for hypoglycemia but it works for me to just put a little Nutrical on Lacey's gums when needed, which isn't often now that she is a little bigger and older. I know a lady that gives hers a little honey every night, though, so whatever works. Having said that, I use Propel at times it is a good thing to have on hand because it does have sugar in it. It would not have occurred to me to use it if I was out with Lacey without the Nutrical. |
