Set him up for success, and take him out on a leash every hour on the hour and stay with him until he pees and ask him to poop each time (whether or not you get poop out of him, ask anyway), gradually increasing the time as he is successful. Don't forget to give him his favorite treat each time he does this outside when you tell him. Also maybe hang a bell on the door, and as you go outside every hour, ring the bell yourself and say "outside." Then watch for clues that he needs to go outside. This will come later, but he'll learn the word.
You also need to get your carpet professionally cleaned and neutralized to make it so he doesn't smell his work--thinking this is where he is supposed to go because he smells his mess there.
Hope this helps. |
Misty is right. You need to go back to square one with him and confine him. You may not like it but it will stop the urination in the house. Treat him like he's a 12 week old puppy you just brought home. Get a crate that's only big enough for him to stand in, turn around, and lie down. Any bigger and he'll just pee where he isn't lying down. I know this seems small but it works. Don't feel bad for him, in the end it will be better. If you seriously want him housebroken this is the way to do it. From reading your posts it sounds like if you get him a larger crate or an expen right now he'll just urinate in it. So, place him in the crate whenever you cannot watch him, even if its for 5 minutes. at night, crate him. when you go to work, crate him. He needs to be on a feeding, crate, and outside schedule so you can set times for him to do these three things.
what's your typical weekday like? do you work full time or do you stay home?
