Jake was the only pup in the litter, but he was still very well socialized because he was raised in the house with other dogs and people around.
He did seem shy at first, but we just let him roam around and check things out. He would do as you described, kind of duck down when we would go to pick him up. But, after we started getting down in the floor with him, he opened up and was playing with us and jumping around on us.
At 12 weeks, you really should be free feeding him. Leave food and fresh water out for him all the time. That way, he can eat when he needs to. They need to eat more often when they're this young.
Try getting down in the floor with him with treats and teach him the "come" command. You'll be surprised how fast these little ones catch on. Play with him alot with toys in the floor and talk really softly to him. He's just a little unsure right now, and it's probably because he was kept in a separate building from the breeder's house. He's probably just not very well socialized. Since he cries for you, it shows that he is bonding with you. It's just gonna take him a little more time, that's all. |
