Lilly whelped her puppies last saturday, so 10 days ago now. She was given an oxy shot just to be sure she got everything cleaned out. The vet said to expect her to bleed for up to 10 days or so. I watched closely like I was advised & the blood started out a pinky/red at a fairly steady little flow that she cleaned constantly. Then slowly tapered to a kind of rusty color with a bit of clear fluid blended in there after a few days. It seemed to be slowing down to a mild discharge & spotting rather than the more period like flow.
Now as of yesterday morning it's gone back to near blood red again & the amount has increased back to what it was in the first day or two
I thought it might have something to do with her sleeping on the heating pad the last day or so, so I turned it down to low this morning since the puppy isn't really using it... but it's been quite a few hours & the blood is still pretty red (like a fresh cut red). The flow is back to where she is having a hard time keeping herself clean again, and leaking onto the blankies and pillows. (a good soaked spot about the size of a silver dollar or larger after a half hour nap)
Her temp seems fine (101 exactly) and she is still eating and acting normal in almost every other way. She's sleeping a bit more again, but not overly.
I called the vet yesteday afternoon, but the tech that answered spoke to the vet & they said give her another day or so... but I feel like maybe there might be something wrong here?
Should I be worried & has anyone else experienced this sort of thing before?
