I know its really heartbreaking to hear them cry and whine but what you really should do is NOT take him out of the crate when he cres. If you do that he will learn that when he cries you will let him out and play with him. He needs to learn that that strategy will not work. It may take time...he will be louder to get his way. But you should be strong and ignore him until he realizes that night time is sleep time and not play time whether he likes it or not.
