I have always used dog shampoo on my dogs. When I was doing my research on yorkies before buying a yorkie for my mother (before I had yorkies) I found a site that said that since yorkies have hair rather than dog fur that it is best to use a good human shampoo. For 5 1/2 years I have been using human shampoo and conditioner on my yorkies. The best one that I have found is Paul Mitchell Baby Don't Cry shampoo. It works great and it is tear free. Then I use a good conditioner. I am currently using Fructies (sp?). I did have one of my dogs that had some flaking when he first started getting baths, but that cleared up after a couple of baths.
I started bathing my dogs right away also. Not necessarily with shampoo (except my flaky one,lol), but just to get them used to the idea. I think that it helped them to be used to the water and all the grooming as they got older. |
