I used to do lots of cross stitching! I've started many projects and finished few! LOL. Start on aida cloth, and pick up a book, not a kit. This way, you can start your collection of DMC floss. There are lots of little beginner books out there. Find something that is a smallish pattern with large areas of one color, so you can get some practice doing the stitches without having to change colors too often. Lots of the beginner books show how to do the stitches. It is very easy. Just make sure all your stitches lay in the same direction--meaning make your top half of the cross all lay the same way. Don't worry about keeping your back tidy or "laying" your stitches until you've done a couple of small projects. I went to a show one time, and I took a beginner class--this was after I had done a few projects--and I learned so many great tips. It was really worth it. But for your first time, you just want to start making something and getting some experience.
